It's been a year since you passed, Steve. You are still very much in my thoughts, so I decided to find that photo I took in London where you stuck your face in the way at the last second. You could always make us smile :-D

Only a few weeks has passed since I found out that my best friend at RM had gone. I'm still finding it hard to understand that word "gone" and its permanency. I was lucky enough to work with Steve for over 10 years, most of it side-by-side. He always made a difficult day better. His smile and humour kept me going. His patience to listen to me when I needed to get something off my chest was unending. His friendship meant a lot to me, and always will. I'm struggling to find the right words to say, but I'm glad I was able to spend today with his family & friends to say goodbye. Steve I am going to miss you. You may be gone, but you'll never be forgotten. RIP my friend.

I sat next to Steve for a few years and saw how he spent his days helping colleagues, often going above and beyond, and then in his spare time he would be helping others, whether it was local friends with computer trouble or random people with Internet troubles. Steve was a caring and funny person who is greatly missed.

Steve was always extremely generous with his time and sharing his knowledge, so bright and talented. The best thing though, he always made everyone smile. Steve’s friendliness, warmth and humour will remain a strong memory of mine. Today, we have to say goodbye but you will always be remembered. I feel lucky and proud to have known you. Sleep well my friend. xx

You're a gem of a person , Steve. The best colleague I have ever worked with; my go-to person. I am sure that no one can match or replace you. I have always looked up to you as an inspiration. You made me who I am today. With fond memories that we spent... With a shattered heart... Accepting that you are no more. There is not a single day that goes by without thinking about you. Like many others have commented, this was such a shock. I worked with Steve at RM for just over 20 years and was really grateful for all his support. Steve was so patient with me and my various requests for help and could always find a solution no matter what. Such a lovely, kind man with a great sense of humour who will be missed by us all. Steve , still its hard to believe that you are no longer with us. I'll never forget how patient and understanding you were with me when I first started working. Although I have never met you in person ,we spoke almost everyday during the last 4 years .The knowledge you shared made me who I am today . Although I didn't know Steve for all that long, I could relate very easily to him as we seemed to get on so easily and effortlessly. So I can only echo what so many others on here have said. Sleep Well lovely man. Xxx

A few days have passed now, and whilst I can now talk about it more easily, I don’t think I’ll ever quite accept it. It has though been lovely to read some of the posts on here from people I don’t know because I can recognise Steve in everything they say. I’d known Steve since we were teenagers and as I write this I’m listening to some of his favourite music from that time: Magic Affair - Give Me All Your Love, Clock - Keep The Fires - Burning, Cappella - Move It Up, plus lots of other Eurodance bangers that we’d buy on our weekly trips to HMV Oxford. It wasn’t just music we shared an interest in - we shared a sense of humour too and the earliest thing I can remember us both laughing at was The Day Today. Certain names from the show always make me think of him; Collaterlie Sisters, Peter O’ Hanrahahanrahan and of course, Gypsum Fantastic. These shared interests resulted in hundreds of trips to the theatre to comedy shows, and music shows - although we never went to Kylie concerts together strangely. I was more a fan of her SAW days really! To quote The Day Today, “I mean, I could go on”… but I won’t. I shall simply say that I shall miss him terribly and none of these events will be the same without him joining us. We will though always think of you Steve and have a Smirnoff Ice in your honour. Rest easy mate.

I always felt happy and relaxed in Steve's company, mainly because we had a lot to chatter about, particularly our love of Kylie. Steve filmed our wedding, we didn't ask him to, he just did and captured some wonderful, funny and happy moments that we will treasure. That was what always came across with Steve, he was the most genuine, lovely and kind guy who would do anything to help, especially with my lack of IT skills. My heart goes out to his family and to all of his friends who will miss him tremendously. I will keep you all in my thoughts at this sad time.. Steve was such a warm hearted and lovely man, he just oozed positivity and friendliness. Master of the art of being both private yet incredibly open, he never wanted it to be about him but about how he could help you as a colleague or just have a nice chat as a friend. Unbelievably generous with his time and talent, and always there with a warm smile and a cheeky sense of humour for a bit of innuendo. I always looked forward to exchanging thoughts with you about Eurovision and will miss you mate.

Steve was such a friendly helpful man, no matter how stupid my questions he always smiled and helped or pointed me in the right direction. I will always remember seeing him and Donna at the Kylie concert at Blenheim - he was in his element. It just won’t be the same without him xx RIP Steve xxx

Steve was an amazing man and I loved working with him so much. He was always there to help, never said no and quite amazingly he ‘got’ me!! (There are not many people who understand my waffle enough to help solve my problems!) He certainly deserved the Mars Bars I would give him to say thank you… or was it to bribe him? 🤔 Either way, he was always grateful and willing to help and always had a cheeky smile to greet you 🥰 The office will never be the same 😢 Like Donna, Steve knew so much about me, he loved to listen and I love to talk… the perfect match 🥰 We often sat chatting way past the end of the day… putting the world to rights 😊 Steve, you were not just a colleague to me, you were a very dear friend and I am going to miss you greatly. Thank you for being you and please rest in peace knowing that you meant so much to so many of us. You really were the best 🥰 Until we meet again…😢😘😘😢 x x x x x

At RM, Steve was my confidant, my work husband and my most favourite desk buddy. We talked about all sorts... well I talked, Steve listened, and commented and supported. He knew so much about me and my family & life, but in contrast, despite all the years we worked together, I knew very little about him. But while he didn't share personal stuff, he shared himself in so many other ways. He shared his time - always willing to help colleagues; he shared his knowledge; he shared his humour (the term 'cockwomble' comes to mind); he shared his love of motorsport & F1, of Eurovision & most importantly of Buffy and Kylie. He was thoughtful and generous and kind and very rarely without a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed by so many. Steve - Treacle - I hope with all my heart you are at peace, and you are living your best life dancing to Scooter & Kylie without a care in the world.
